IUI - Intrauterine Insemination

Intrauterine Insemination is the full form of IUI. IUI commonly called as artificial insemination-AI for fertility treatment. IUI is done when man’s sperm count is low or poor in quality or when a woman with a hostile cervical mucus, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or unexplained infertility, endometriosis. In some case whose husband is out of station or not staying together.

Procedure
The patient gives the semen/sperm specimen
Specimen is washed and prepared for IUI
Monitor the woman’s ovulation time
Inject the best sperm into the uterus with the help of catheter so that the sperm has little distance to travel towards the egg
Make her rest for some time after the injection

Age play a vital role in the process of fertilization. If IUI is not successful then the next step is to go for IVF-In Vitro Fertilisation.
